The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects can be intimidating, especially if your own parents didn't feel confident in those areas. If this is your story, high-five! It's also mine. I'm the first and only engineer in my family, and worked hard to learn the above subjects. I didn't have a tutor, but I know that having one would have saved me from a few frustrating nights. This is why I enjoy tutoring---I help students get 'unstuck' in the very same places that I was many years back. But more importantly than the subject matter is *confidence*. Put aside the math and science, and my underlying, primary goal is to teach confidence. It's the most powerful weapon you can wield in this increasingly competitive world.
